Universal Hybrid Multi-Cloud (HMC)
From 4th March 2024, Citrix licensing has changed significantly. The major changes are:
- Withdrawal of sale for XenServer as standalone product
- Withdrawal of sale for most NetScaler editions. Only two VPX fixed-bandwidth editions remain and these are subscriptions:
- 1Gbps Advanced
- 5Gbps Premium
- Withdrawal of sale of all Virtual Apps and Virtual Apps and Desktops licences as standalone product
- Universal Hybrid Multi-Cloud created as subscription-only bundle of products
HMC includes:
- XenServer Premium (10000 socket licence)
- NetScaler Flexed VPX (999 instances)
- NetScaler 100MB Premium Flexed (10000 of)
- Virtual Apps and Desktops Premium concurrent use licences (minimum quantity 250)
- App Protection concurrent user
- XenMobile endpoint management Advanced
- Citrix DaaS (Citrix Cloud managed controllers and Gateway service)

XenServer
Use Citrix Hypervisor Term License-Premium-Socket to licence your XenServers (including Citrix Hypervisor 8.2 CU1). The Linux-based licence server is no longer supported, so install this licence file on the Windows licence server
Virtual Apps and Desktops
The Virtual Apps & Desktops SaaS OPT License-Premium-Concurrent licence file contains Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Premium CCU (Concurrent User) as well as Citrix Provisioning licences. If you have other licence editions (e.g. ones you have not traded-up) in use, you will need a CVAD Compatibility license for HMC-None-None licence files which contains all other editions and licence models. This will avoid having mixed licence editions. It contains:
- Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Premium U/D
- Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Advanced CCU
- Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Advanced U/D
- Citrix Virtual Desktops Standard CCU
- Citrix Virtual Desktops Standard U/D
- Citrix Virtual Apps Premium CCU
- Citrix Virtual Apps Advanced CCU
- Citrix Virtual Apps Standard CCU
It does not contain Citrix Provisioning licences; for those, you must install the 'Virtual Apps & Desktops SaaS OPT License-Premium-Concurrent'' licence file.
NetScaler
To license NetScaler, you need to use NetScaler Console (formerly ADM, formerly MAS) to managed Flexed licences across the instances. This can be on-prem or using the NetScaler Console service. The licence files get assigned and uploaded to the NetScaler Console and then each NetScaler instance connects to NetScaler Console to retrieve licences.
You need to assign and apply both the platform licence (e.g. NetScaler Flexed VPX SW Instance-None-None) and the bandwidth licence (NetScaler Flexed Platinum BW 100 MB-None-None). If you apply just the former, it will be licenced, but have no features (except SSL offload) and will have 20Mbps throughput).
