New devices, new benefits, new challenges
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): Educational Benefits
Why should we allow students to bring in their own device? Based on money alone, a typical smart-phone or tablet can cost around £300. Multiply this by 120 students and you have £36,000 worth of ICT sitting in pockets and bags. Instead of banning these devices from the classroom, wouldn't it be great to use them as a curriculum resource?
The added benefits are:
- Make learning fun and more interactive
- Reduce the cost and frequency of ICT room updates
- Make ICT core to students, both during school and at home
- Teach students to make use of whatever device they have available
- Promote independent learning
